FASHION WEEK IN A FLASH: GET DRESSED WITH VICTORIA BECKHAM

Seeing a celebrity as the face of their own brand these days is nothing new. While so many celebs have managed to step into the role of fashion designer very few of them actually take it seriously or have any kind of eye for designing. A few celebs have managed to get it right though. Victoria Beckham is one of them. Just last week I saw Beckham on the View's Friday style segment and was very impressed with the fall 2010 pieces she showed. While the dresses weren't wildly colored, printed, or anything that has not been done before, they were nothing short of magnificent. It seems Beckham has found her niche: classic dresses with clean lines, some draping and shapes that agree with most body types. Her SS2011collection has picked up where the fall collection left off. There is a dress in this collection for every occasion you could think of. Beckham is certainly one to watch, and the fact that she already has a following, having dressed celebs such as Demi Moore, Kate Hudson and Drew Barrymore, something tells me we'll be watching her for a while.

FASHION WEEK IN A FLASH: DVF

It seems Fashion Week this year came and went, maybe in the future we could have Fashion Month. Anyway here are some of my favorite looks from one of my favorite designers whom I feel really understands and designs for a woman's body. While most designers say they do, DVF truly does. Take it from a woman who goes up and down in sizes constantly and is never disappointed in the choices available from DVF. For Spring RTW 2011 DVF gave us her classic style notes, prints, patterns and color with just a dash of something more added to the pot. Think of it in terms of having your favorite dessert with a new ingredient in it that you love, but realize wasn't there the other times you had it. The accessories seemed more youthful and hipper for lack of a better word, the waist pouches aka fanny packs were really cute and I also loved the separates, the way they were matched on the runway and the potential they had in fitting into a real woman's wardrobe. LOOK....

FASHION WEEK IN A FLASH: MARC JACOBS

Voluminous, Glam, Classic and Fabulous can all be used to describe the Marc Jacobs SS2011 show. Even when others feel Jacobs has missed the mark I always think he's on point. It is clear that this collection is an amalgam of several different influences, but nonetheless, combined flawlessly with a color palette that is rich and inspiring. I especially love the pink, purple and red color palette. The accessories are to die for, everything from the platform shoes to the hair, neck and waist ties. I can certainly see the flower becoming one of the hottest hair accessories next summer. While some say they are so over the 70's inspired clothes they've been seeing on the runways, I am head over heels for it all. I love a good bell bottom, a great jumpsuit and wide lens shade and this collection has it all. See some pics below.

FASHION WEEK IN A FLASH: GET DRESSED WITH RACHEL ROY SS 2011

This SS 2011 collection is described by Roy as the “Band-Aid capsule” collection. She states, “Band-Aids disappear on your skin? That’s what I want these to do in a woman’s wardrobe”. I am almost sure these pieces will disappear off the racks and into many women’s wardrobes. Roy is another one of my favorite designers whom it always seems, gets it right. It seems she always gets it right because she truly designs and understands the way her garments should fit a woman and fit within a woman’s wardrobe. The fact that she has a great fashion sense that she often displays also inspires you to willingly follow her on whichever road of inspiration she may be going on next. BTW if you’re a bargainista wanting all the style you can get for a fraction of the price, try her Rachel Rachel Roy line.

His & Her's Classic Closet + This Season's Updates

Each season as fashion and trends change we can all feel tempted to completely revamp our closets with what is currently available and in style, but because fashion and trends repeat themselves in three to four year cycles I find it more useful to always have certain wardrobe and closet pieces handy and then fill in with just a few of the top trends. A few should be all that is needed because if you're smart and listening, you'll know that the baby doll dress or tye-dye shirt will eventually make a comeback, and so you will save it. In this post it is my intention to demonstrate what I think some of the most important closet staples are and then what it means to fill in your closet with seasonal trends. For the most part the men and women classic boxes mirror one another in that everyone needs a white crisp shirt, a classic cardigan that can be dressed up or down as well as a blazer that can also be paired with dressier or casual pieces. In the men's box I have a black suit as a must-have because it is. While it does not have to be the suit in the box, since it is my intention to show you what you need and not what brand to buy, men, you need at least one quality suit. In the women's classic box I added a pencil skirt instead of a LBD because a pencil skirt can be dressed up or down as well. Notice how some of the pieces in each group can be paired together. for example you can take an item such as the blue Dsquared2 jeans in the men's classic box and pair them with the Paul Smith Fair Isle sweater and Moncler ski jacket in the update box. The same for some of the items in the women's boxes. BTW don't forget about choosing a classic cologne or parfum for yourself that makes you feel and smell good when wearing it, smelling good is just as important as looking good.

LOOK FOR..............

Another fabo-collabo from H&M. This time the Swedish retail giant is teaming up with French fashion house Lanvin. Each time H&M collaborates with another powerhouse brand as they have in the past, Karl Largerfeld, Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Jimmy Choo, just to name a few, the fashion world gets a buzzing trying to guess and speculate on which designer is next to say I do to H&M. I have seen all sorts of wish lists on who the public thinks should be next, and while I agree with some of the choices, I have to say that I personally am hoping for Balmain or DVF and in my wildest dreams, Chanel. The H&M and Lanvin collaboration will consist of menswear and womenswear. While the collection certainly will not be as expensive as a regular Lanvin garment or accessory, Lanvin Artisitc Director Alber Elbaz states that the collection is anything but a "dress for Less" collection. Given the fact that he says he would never have vowed to do a "mass-market collection" he states that this collaboration "is more about H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public". In other words, expect great quality garments at great prices, but not to the tune of walking into an H&M with $100.00 and coming out with five pieces from the collection. Sneak-peeks of what is to come can be viewed by all on November 2nd via film on the website www.hm.com and three weeks from then on November 23rd the collection is slated to debut in over 200 stores worldwide.

ON TREND: FALL HAIR TO FALL FOR

Underdone, softly tousled, pinned, tucked, ironed or snipped this season's hair trends run the gamut. There is certainly something for everyone to try. Of the many different hair trends this season I have to say I favor the softly tousled look with a center or side part and the ponytail. Take a look at some looks that may inspire you to try a new do this season.

STRAIGHT & WINDSWEPT
An example of this season's straight and windswept look would be the styles that models Abbey Lee Kershaw and Constance Jablonski rocked on the Balmain and Anna Sui rtw Fall 2010 runways. Notice how the hair is straightened and sleek, but also contains a bit of body to it, rather than the hair being pin straight and stiff.

WAVY & TOUSLED
The timeless allure of wavy tousled locks never seem out of season and it is a style that most can rock. Get inspired by model Joan Smalls who rocked this look down the DVF Fall 2010 runway and Megan Fox.

PINNED & TUCKED
How cool is the pompadour? First popular during the 60's and ready for a comeback in 2010. We have been seeing this style floating around for a while now, but I think this season it will really show up and show out. Get inspired by the talented fancy foot songstress Janelle Monae or take a cue from Fendi's Fall rtw 2010 show.

PULLED & WRAPPED
This last hair trend, the ponytail, has been around and a favorite forever. Whenever I wear a ponytail it makes me feel and look at least three years younger than I am. I don't know any woman that couldn't live with looking younger than she really is. Of all the different hairstyles one can wear I think the ponytail is the most versatile because you can wear it high, low, to the side like the model in the Fall DKNY show in the first pic, or like the model in the second pic, walking the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 runway.

THE GLITZY JEWELRY BOX

Here are some wear now, wear later or anytime for that matter, jewelry pieces that I think are cool and of the moment. This season's earrings have gone glam and can be worn day or night. The rings are still large and in charge but also slim and stack-able, while the bracelets and necklaces are bold and embellished but can also be layered by using the correct sized pieces that compliment one another.
